Garment System vs Tapstitch

Last updated: July 29, 2026

This is the closest comparison on this site, because the blanks overlap. Tapstitch and Garment System both build on heavyweight oversized tees, boxy hoodies, crewnecks, and washed styles rather than the thin promotional garments most print services stock. Where the two separate is how the garment gets decorated. Tapstitch is fashion on demand: it prints and dropships each garment as the order arrives, which limits it to the methods that work one unit at a time. Garment System is a manufacturer, so the whole toolkit is open to you: screen printing, DTF, DTG, and embroidery on the storefront, and puff print, sublimation, patch embroidery, and panelled construction through cut and sew. This page is a side-by-side reference so you can pick the model that fits the project.

When Garment System fits

The finish matters: you want screen print, puff, patch embroidery, or panelled construction rather than whatever prints on demand, plus private-label finishing, volume pricing, and a sample you signed off on first.

When Tapstitch fits

Print on demand is what you need: no inventory, orders printed one at a time from your storefront, and US customers served quickly out of Los Angeles. Paying more per garment is worth that flexibility.

We are not going to pretend the garments are worlds apart. Tapstitch built its catalogue on the same kind of premium blanks we do, its DTG and DTF work is good, and it offers all-over print, which we do not. Print on demand is a genuinely better answer for a lot of brands: nothing sits in inventory, orders print one at a time straight from your store, and US customers get their parcel quickly from the Los Angeles warehouse. We do none of that, and we would tell you so. The gap is what a print-per-order model cannot reach: screen printing needs screens burned per colour and only pays off across a run, and puff, sublimation, patch embroidery, and panelled construction happen while the garment is being made rather than after. If you are still validating what sells, order on demand. If the finish is the point, or you know what you are producing, a run costs less per garment and opens up techniques on-demand cannot.

The styles overlap. Both catalogues centre on heavyweight oversized tees, boxy hoodies, crewnecks, and washed pieces rather than thin promotional garments, so the blank you have in mind may exist on both sides. Tapstitch carries a much wider catalogue; ours is a focused set we produce and customize ourselves.

At volume, generally yes. Tapstitch prices per item because each garment is produced when it is ordered. Our pricing is tiered by production quantity, starting at 10 units to customize and improving through 400+, so per-unit cost falls as the run grows. For a handful of units, on-demand pricing is usually the cheaper way in.

No. There is no per-order dropshipping, no storefront integration, and no US warehouse today. We produce your run and freight it to you. If you need orders routed to end customers one at a time, or fast domestic US delivery on single orders, an on-demand platform like Tapstitch is the right fit for that part of the business.

Screen printing is the headline one: it needs a screen burned per colour, so it only makes sense across a run, and it is what gives solid graphics their flat, durable, soft hand-feel. Beyond that, anything that happens while the garment is being made rather than printed afterwards: puff print, sublimation, patch embroidery, panelled colour-blocking, swapped trims and fabrics. On the storefront you can pick screen print, DTF, DTG, or embroidery per placement; the rest is quoted through cut and sew.

Woven and printed neck labels, hem tags, and size chips as part of the standard workflow rather than a paid add-on, a techpack and pre-production sample you approve before the run, the same trusted partner factories on every reorder, and volume pricing. Production is handled by partner factories in China, with QC and finishing managed by our team and our Montreal office as your point of contact.
